'While writing the poem Nihilophobia I got the image of Koanashi again and again, the 'No Face' that appears to Chihiro in Spirited Away. Today I felt this something that is not there, fascinating, appealing and frightening at the same time. Have you ever felt it?'No-Face (カオナシ kaonashi, lit. "faceless") is a spirit in the Japanese animated film Spirited Away. He is shown to be capable of reacting to emotions and ingesting other individuals in order to gain their personality and physical traits.
Nihilophobia
Nihilophobia
Big long figures of charcoal come to life
there is weight about them like body-weight
they tend to be straight but they are not
there must be old bones in their shadiness
they must moan when no one looks at them
they suggest to have mouths without faces
to live without traces, apart from a snail trail
of smoke in the brain that just
never really appears
before it never really faints
When I fear myself and all kinds of self’s they slip into the vowels
If they have a love for something
it is to stretch the vowels
and stare into the space of
Ooooo’s and Aaaaa’s
Those figures of charcoal these days
put quite a lot of weight
in not really being there
besides the cold wet washing
and capture me.
I'm loving to read your blog, Laura! I came across your work reading the Kluger Hans but as I'm just learning Dutch I find it really striking to be able to read you in English. I hope I can manage to access your new book when released. :)
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Cintia
Dear Cintia, I am equally happy..to hear that you love to read my blog and also to hear about the way you found me! I did not think of this possibility that someone who is not a native Dutch-speaker could find me through the Dutch work and than be extra happy about finding the English blog! Are the poems on your weblog yours?
DeleteBest Wishes,
Laura
Lauri! Hallo! I don't know why I didn't receive your response through my email.. I read it now just by chance, coming here to read your new posts! Thanks so much for your answer. I keep on being amazed by you. We have so many things in common: love of poetry, art, nature and the female power… I'd love to know you better, can I add you on Facebook so we can talk? ;)
DeleteBtw, the poems on my blog aren't mine, just poems I love and don't want to forget.
Light kisses,
Cintia
Hi Cintia! Sure, I just added you on FB. I like your profile-picture over there with the cat for your face. I could write a poem about it, possibly :).
